Whether ordering takeout after a long day of work or sitting down for a slice and a beer on a Friday night, South Shore bar pizza is a fiercely loved food among our readers, and they certainly have opinions on where to get it. In an online poll conducted by The Enterprise, 44,258 votes were cast on where to get the best bar pizza in the Brockton area. Out of 16 well-loved restaurants, Cape Cod Cafe, located at 979 Main St. in Brockton, took the lead with 15,223 votes or 34.40%. Tinray’s, located at 9 Winter St. in Brockton, was a close second with 14,463 votes or 32.68%. Here’s why Brockton area residents say Cape Cod Cafe is the place to go. It’s what we grew up doing. We have a lot of experience, and we have people who have been with us a long time.” Jonathan’s grandfather E. James “Papa” Jamoulis bought what is now Cape Cod Cafe back in 1947. One person blends the sauce,” said Jamoulis. “So, consistency and high-quality ingredients make our pizza stand out.” The bar pizzas are made in a 10-inch seasoned pan with thin, freshly proofed dough, homemade oregano-based sauce and a blend of cheddar cheeses baked in a deck oven. “The technique is as old as the pizza itself,” Jamoulis said on how the bar pizza is cooked. “It’s done in a deck oven with an old pan. Cooked the old-fashioned way. It’s slow baked, which gives it the nice crispy crust and bubbly cheese on top,” he said. “It comes out so good.” A close second: Tinray’sLess than a thousand votes behind Cape Cod Cafe, Tinray’s took second place in the poll, and the two jockeyed back and forth at times for the top spot. “We put a lot of heart and soul into our work here. WBZ’s Suzanne Sausville went down to one of the Cape Cod Cafe’s brick and mortar locations in Brockton to learn more, and they have a secret to their recipe when making a pizza that is certainly not common, but they claim it works. “We top [our pizzas] with a blend of cheddar cheeses and that’s very important, it’s cheddar cheese no mozzarella there’s no provolone [involved], said Jeremy Jamoulis, one of the two owners of the Cape Cod Pizza Cafe. Jeremy, along with his brother Jonathan are the third-generation owners of the restaurant and have said that the new take-home pizza ingredients are running out fast because these pies are just immensely popular. “It’s been unbelievable, it’s been great, [and] it just took right off, people have been commenting like crazy [and] it’s been quite a thing,” said Jonathan Jamoulis. “It’s a low-cost night, you’re making pizza at home, it’s fun!” he added. And what’s even better is that you don’t need a deck oven at home to make your own pizza, maybe just a minor investment in some pans and ingredients, according to Jeremy. “If you buy these pans and do everything [follow the recipe], you will have a really good pizza at home you’d be surprised.” While the guys are just getting this off the ground, eventually, they hope to sell toppings like pepperoni and chicken on their pizzas too.
